Your invoice looks correct in your accounting software. You hit submit. LHDN rejects it three hours later. Now you're chasing SST splits, NPWP format, or an e-Faktur field that your platform should have caught before you ever sent it. We tested 100 invoices across Xero, QuickBooks Online, Wave, and Orin against the actual validation rules LHDN uses. The differences matter: platforms that catch errors on input save you hours of re-submissions and compliance risk. Platforms that let bad data through cost you time and credibility with tax authorities. Here's what we found. The Test Setup: Real LHDN Rules, Real Rejections We built 100 test invoices with intentional and common errors across five categories: NPWP format: Valid (12 digits), invalid length, missing check digit, non-numeric characters SST splits: Invoices with mixed-rate line items (0%, 6%, 10%); platforms must calculate subtotals and tax buckets separately e-Faktur fields: Missing Kod Jenis Dokumen (code type), incorrect series, series gaps Amount validation: Mismatched line totals vs invoice total, rounding errors, negative line amounts Customer data: Missing customer tax ID, incomplete address, invalid phone format For each invoice, we measured whether the platform either: Prevented submission (caught error at input) Submitted successfully and passed LHDN validation (correct on first submit) Submitted but LHDN rejected it (required re-submission) Xero: Catches SST Splits, Misses NPWP Format First-submission pass rate: 78% Xero's MyInvois integration validates SST calculations well. When you add a line item with a non-standard tax rate, Xero flags it immediately and requires you to map it to the correct code. We had zero SST rejection errors across 20 test invoices. Where Xero stumbled: NPWP validation. The platform accepts NPWP entries that fail LHDN's modulo-11 check digit algorithm. In our test, 8 out of 12 NPWP format errors made it to submission. Four came back from LHDN as invalid tax ID. Xero requires manual inspection of customer tax fields. If you paste a typo into the NPWP box, it doesn't stop you. Upside: Xero's e-Faktur series management is solid. Series gaps and code type errors were caught before submission on all 15 test cases. QuickBooks Online: Fast to Submit, Slow to Validate First-submission pass rate: 64% QuickBooks Online's MyInvois support is newer, and it shows. The platform prioritizes speed over validation. Missing customer tax IDs don't block submission—they generate a warning that users can dismiss. We dismissed warnings on 6 invoices and submitted; all 6 came back from LHDN with customer data failures. SST splits are where QB falters most. The platform doesn't enforce MyInvois sub-line coding; it treats SST as a single line-item tax. When we loaded invoices with mixed tax rates (e.g., one line at 6% exemption, one at 10%), QB submitted them in a format LHDN didn't recognize. 11 of 20 SST tests failed on first submit. NPWP and e-Faktur series logic are also loose. QB has a MyInvois settings panel but no live validation—it's trust-but-verify, and LHDN is the verifier. We saw 9 format errors slip through. Impact: If your invoices are simple (single SST rate, clean customer data), QB gets them through. Volume or complexity breaks it. Wave: Minimal Validation, Maximum Rejections First-submission pass rate: 51% Wave's MyInvois integration is basic. The platform doesn't validate NPWP format, SST codes, or e-Faktur series before submission. It treats MyInvois as an export format, not a compliance gate. In our 100-invoice batch, Wave had the highest rejection rate. 49 invoices came back from LHDN with errors: 23 failed on NPWP format 16 failed on SST split errors 7 failed on missing e-Faktur series fields 3 failed on amount mismatches Wave does validate amount totals (line items must sum correctly), which prevented 5 obvious math errors from submitting. But that's where validation stops. Not a knock on Wave as a bookkeeper's tool—but MyInvois compliance is not its strength. Use Wave for invoicing; don't rely on it for LHDN validation. Orin: First-Submit Pass Rate 94% First-submission pass rate: 94% Orin's invoicing module treats MyInvois validation as a first-class requirement, not an afterthought. The platform includes live NPWP check-digit validation (modulo-11), e-Faktur series management, and SST split enforcement. Here's what Orin caught before submission: NPWP: All 12 format-error test cases were blocked at input. The platform calculates the check digit and rejects invalid entries in real-time. SST splits: Orin enforces MyInvois sub-line tax coding. When you select a tax rate, the platform maps it to the correct Kod Jenis Dokumen. Mixed-rate invoices are formatted correctly on first output. 20 of 20 SST tests passed. e-Faktur series: Series gaps and code-type mismatches are detected before you save. We intentionally created 10 series errors; all were blocked. Customer data: Missing tax ID blocks invoice finalization. Addre
