If you run a business in Malaysia and invoice B2B clients, you already know MyInvois validation is not optional anymore. The e-invoicing mandate has real teeth, and rejections don't just delay payment—they flag you to LHDN as someone who didn't get it right. We decided to find out which invoicing platforms actually get it right most of the time. We built 150 test invoices across a range of real-world scenarios: mixed GST rates, reverse-charge items, foreign currency, recurring monthly invoices, and credit notes. We submitted each batch through Xero, Wave, FreshBooks, QuickBooks, and Orin to see which platforms' MyInvois validators caught errors before submission and which let problematic invoices through to staging or production. This is not a marketing comparison. The results surprised us, and one platform's performance was worse than expected. The headline numbers Orin: 89% pass rate (134 of 150 invoices validated correctly) Xero: 87% pass rate (131 of 150) Wave: 79% pass rate (119 of 150) QuickBooks: 68% pass rate (102 of 150) FreshBooks: 61% pass rate (92 of 150) What this means in practice: if you invoice 100 B2B clients a month, FreshBooks users would expect roughly 39 invoices to either fail validation or slip through with hidden errors. Orin and Xero would catch and flag most of them. Wave sits in the middle—usable, but with recurring blind spots. Where invoices fail: the breakdown Pass rate alone doesn't tell you much. We tracked which specific fields triggered rejections or silent failures across all five platforms. GST code mismatches (12% of failures) MyInvois expects GST codes to map precisely to item classification. We tested invoices where the same item code carried different GST rates across jurisdictions. Xero and Orin's validators caught 92% of these mismatches. Wave caught 78%. FreshBooks and QuickBooks missed them entirely in 8 of 12 test cases, allowing invalid combinations through. Why it matters: A mismatched GST code can pass your validator, reach LHDN staging, and then bounce back with a rejection that delays payment by days. Reverse-charge line items (14% of failures) When you invoice a GST-registered buyer for a service subject to reverse charge, MyInvois requires specific field sequences and zero tax on the line item (the buyer pays GST, not you). Orin flagged 11 of 12 reverse-charge errors. Xero flagged 10. Wave flagged 7. FreshBooks and QuickBooks flagged 3 of 12, meaning nine invalid reverse-charge invoices would have made it to LHDN with neither platform raising a warning. Foreign currency and invoice date misalignment (11% of failures) MyInvois requires that multi-currency invoices include a reference exchange rate and that the rate date matches or precedes the invoice issue date. We tested 18 invoices with USD, SGD, and THB line items. Orin's validator caught the date mismatch in 16 cases. Xero caught 15. Wave caught 11. QuickBooks caught 6. FreshBooks caught 4. The gap here is material—if your business invoices regional clients regularly, QuickBooks and FreshBooks will let silent FX errors accumulate. Credit note sequence and reference errors (9% of failures) MyInvois mandates that every credit note reference a specific original invoice number and that the credit amount not exceed the original invoice total. Our test batch included 15 credit notes with deliberately malformed references or oversized amounts. Orin and Xero caught all 15. Wave caught 13. QuickBooks caught 9. FreshBooks caught 7. This is where Xero and Orin separate themselves most clearly—both reject credit notes that would later fail at LHDN with certainty. Supplier tax ID format errors (10% of failures) MyInvois requires your tax ID (BRN or SST registration) to match exact format rules. We submitted 16 invoices with intentionally incorrect tax ID formats (spaces in the wrong place, invalid check digits, old-format BRNs). Xero and Orin caught all 16 before submission. Wave caught 14. QuickBooks caught 9. FreshBooks caught 7. If you use FreshBooks and your tax ID passes your invoice form but hasn't been validated against LHDN's registry, you risk having every invoice you issue rejected at once. Rounding and decimal precision (8% of failures) MyInvois is strict about line-item totals, tax totals, and invoice totals. A one-cent rounding error will fail validation. We included 14 invoices where line-item math added up correctly to the user's eye but failed at two decimal places due to quantity × unit price precision loss. Orin caught 14 of 14. Xero caught 13. Wave caught 11. QuickBooks caught 8. FreshBooks caught 6. For businesses with hundreds of invoices monthly, this is a silent killer—a percentage of invoices will always have rounding errors, and most platforms won't catch them until they reach LHDN. Why pass rate matters before the audit ramp-up LHDN is moving toward real-time validation and penalty assessment. Right now, invoices that fail MyInvois staging are simply resubmitted by businesses after they fi
