A 3-second load time on 3G kills 35% of your potential conversations before they start. That's not engagement decay; that's leakage before the visitor ever sees the chat icon. We ran a realistic test across three platforms—Intercom, Drift, and Orin's embedded AI widget —measuring load time on 3G speeds typical in Southeast Asia, then tracking visitor engagement and actual transaction conversion over a 30-day window. The results expose a hard truth: the platform with the fastest widget doesn't always win conversions, but the platform with load times above 2 seconds almost always loses them. The 35% visibility cliff: Load time and abandonment Google and multiple mobile UX studies have shown that every 100ms of load-time delay costs 1% of conversions. At 2 seconds, you've already lost 20% of impatient visitors. By 3 seconds, you're at 35%. The problem is compounded on 3G, where many Southeast Asian and South Asian users still operate, and where a "fast" widget on fiber becomes a slow widget on reality. We tested each platform on a simulated 3G connection (5.6 Mbps down, 1.4 Mbps up, 100ms latency) using a real e-commerce site.
